Ancient, esoteric experiences of minimal stimulation may look empty, defeated, or facile. But in fact, they're not. There's still beauty in everything around us, still a reason to have hope or thoughts, still a chance at something otherworldly and whimsical in this lifetime. Curiosity lies at the center of that kind of mindset. It's the thing that makes an artist paint, makes a writer write, or makes a young man smitten pursue a person instead of his phone.
